Els treballs científics es basen en la premissa que el coneixement es pot crear en una comunitat on la gent interactua activament compartint tasques comunes. És per això crucial que les escoles de medicina incloguin activitats d’aprenentatge col·laboratiu en el seu pla d’estudis perquè els estudiants desenvolupin les competències professionals d’un professional de la medicina moderna. Els wikis són excel·lents eines de col·laboració en línia i s’estan utilitzant cada vegada més per als treballs en grup dels estudiants en l’educació superior. El 2009, els Drs. N. Mahy i JM Vidal-Taboada, professors de la Unitat de Bioquímica de la Facultat de Medicina de la Universitat de Barcelona, es van adonar que la Viquipèdia és un excel·lent model de construcció de coneixement dins d’una comunitat. Per això, van dissenyar una activitat d’aprenentatge basat en Viquipèdia per a estudiants de medicina en el primer any acadèmic. El 2009, la idea no era ja original, però era un enfocament innovador per a l’aprenentatge de la bioquímica. Dr. MJ Rodríguez es va incorporar a l’equip el 2012 per impulsar el treball basat en la wiki dels alumnes.
En els últims sis cursos acadèmics, 1.084 alumnes (una mitjana de 181 alumnes per any) han treballat organitzat en petits grups per traduir, ampliar i generar nous articles bioquímics i moleculars de la del català, castellà i anglès de wikipedia. Això significa 604 noves contribucions als articles de Wikipedia. No obstant això, l’activitat no només contribueix al coneixement bioquímic dels nostres alumnes, sinó també a la difusió dels Principis de la Wikipedia i la sensibilització a la llicència Creative Commons dins dels propers professionals de la medicina.

Scientific jobs are based on the premise that knowledge can be created within a community where people actively interact by sharing a common task, and each person depends on and is accountable to each other. It is then crucial that medical schools include collaborative learning activities in their curriculum to allow students to develop the professional competencies of a modern medicine professional. Wikis are excellent tools for online collaboration and are being increasingly used for student group work in higher education. In 2009, Drs. N. Mahy and J.M. Vidal-Taboada, professors in the Biochemistry Unit at the School of Medicine of the University of Barcelona, realized that Wikipedia is an excellent a model of knowledge building inside a community. That is why, they designed a wikipedia-based learning activity for medical students in the first academic year. In 2009 the idea was not already original, but it was an innovative approach to the learning of biochemistry. Dr. M.J. Rodríguez incorporated to the proffessors team in 2012 to boost the wiki-based work of the pupils.
In the last six academic courses, 1084 pupils (an average of 181 pupils per year) have worked organized in small groups to translate, amplify and generate new biochemical and molecular articles of in the Catalan, Spanish and English versions of wikipedia. That means 604 new contributions to wikipedia articles. However, the activity not only contributes to the biochemical knowledge of our pupils, but also to the outreach of the Wikipedia Principles and the sensitization to Creative Commons licensing within the forthcoming medicine professionals.
Currently, our learning project has a nice future. Our activity has been detected by Amical Wikimedia and we are starting a collaboration to improve the mutual benefits of our project.
